Super Power

Did you know you have a super power as a believer in Jesus?
Jesus says in John 14:12-14, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
Let’s break this down. First, when Jesus says, “truly, truly,” He means, “Listen up!” And to put this astonishing statement in context: During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed the sick, the lame and the blind; He walked on water, and He raised the dead. When we accept that He is the Savior we need, we receive the power of the Holy Spirit through our faith, and our prayers that align with His purposes are prayers that He will answer. The Savior of the world gives His followers agency in His redemptive work.
You see, our faith is a super power, gifted to us by God Himself. Jesus said, “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
Mustard seeds are very tiny, but they grow into massive trees. So Jesus is saying that even with your doubts and questions, that speck of faith has the potential to become a massive force. But let’s not forget that He’s not into magic tricks or our personal agendas; He’s about redemption, taking back stolen ground from the evil one and making all things new.
So what mountains do you need to move? What seems impossible? Take that speck of faith and consider how Jesus can redeem that situation. What light can He bring to the darkness? What ailments can He heal? Where can He bring life? Commit that mountain to prayer; ask Him where your heart can beat with unison with His. And see how He works through your super power of faith.
Let’s pray.
Dear Jesus, thank you for the gift of faith. Thank you for the agency that you give us in bringing about transformation and redemption of your kingdom. Grow our faith even when our circumstances seem impossible. Move our mountains for your glory, and diminish our doubts. We are humbled and astounded by this power that you give us, and we ask for right understanding. Be with us today as we consider our relationship with power and show us individually what we need to see. We love you. Amen.
