Relationship With Christ Jesus

Stewarding a relationship with Jesus and my children is my calling. It’s a calling I’m growing in every day, and as I tend to it, I cannot help but feel overjoyed. I know this because of how much happiness I feel when I’m connected to Jesus. I am blessed to teach my children how to fellowship with Jesus, and that is one of the greatest privileges I have been bestowed. I pray that they may see the light of Jesus in me, like I see in them.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6

When I was a younger girl and I would lose something, it would be on my mind all day. I remember when I was 12, I had a real pair of ruby earrings that I lost and it still haunts me. I tore apart my house, retraced my steps, stood in place hoping it would somehow “come to me.” But, alas, I never found them. At the time I wasn’t active in church. I wasn’t told the good news, that I was saved and loved by a father who called me by name.

Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I say unto you, all things, whatsoever you ask when ye pray, believe that you shall receive.”

A few years ago, I lost a pair of keys. This was around the same time I really started my walk with the Lord. Anyways, I told my kids I needed their help and off we went searching for them. After a good 15 minutes of shouting and losing my temper, I stopped in my tracks and told my kids we should pray for help. So, there we were, all five of us, praying that Jesus would intercede on our behalf so we wouldn’t be late. Not even a minute after praying, we found my keys. Just like that. All I had to do was ask. I can still remember the giddiness I felt between me, the kids and Jesus. We were connected. We were working together. A start of a relationship that wasn’t based on give and take or pleasing someone in some way. No, this was different. I knew then that I wanted my kids and I to experience this all the time. This needed to be a way of life for us. And, so, since then, we’ve grown in Christ.

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” - John 14:13-14

Now, I’m not perfect. I still get frustrated. I still react without consulting Jesus first and I take those experiences as a learning curve. But every time I hear my children’s conversations with Jesus, my heart swells with pride. My youngest son, who will be 6 in November, recently lost his prized blue Lamborghini car. Now, his typical reaction would have been throwing a fit and possibly crying because he lost his toy. But, instead of coming to me and asking for help, he turned to our Father first. I heard his subtle prayers from my couch as I sat there working on a project. “God,” he said, “will you please help me find my car.” It was there that he took his own steps in relationship with his Father. The heart of an innocent little boy turning to the One who will hold his heart and keep it safe. It was then that I knew I was doing something right.

If there is one thing I want my children to remember, it’s that Lord will provide for them and they can rest assured he’s walking with them, listening to them and cares for them. Jesus longs to know us. He wants to have fellowship with us and only we can build that relationship with him. As your fellow sister in Christ, I challenge you to work on that relationship, tell him about your day, your struggles, the things that make you laugh. He wants to hear from you. Be an example to your friends, your co-workers, your children. Teach them that Jesus is the way, the Truth and the Life. Remember, "We love because he first loved us" - 1 John 4:19

Let’s pray: Father, we come to you today and thank you that we have a relationship with you today. We thank you for your Grace and Mercy. Thank you for being a Father to us and for loving us unconditionally. Thank you for the opportunity to grow in Christ Jesus. We ask that you bless us and continue to teach us. Thank you for our sisters and brothers in Christ. We love you. Amen.
